Low Voltage, Data + Security Cameras — frequently asked questions
Do you do structured cabling (Cat6 / Cat6A) for homes? +
Yes. Whole-home Cat6 or Cat6A pulls to TV locations, office locations, AP locations, AV racks, and security camera positions. Patch panel termination and labeling at the network rack or panel.
What IP camera brands do you install? +
Ubiquiti UniFi Protect, Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Eufy, Amcrest. We typically recommend Ubiquiti for residential and small commercial because of the local-only privacy model and one-time hardware cost (no subscription).
Do you install video doorbells and intercoms? +
Yes. Ring, Nest Hello, Doorbird, 2N, Aiphone — both consumer and commercial-grade video door entry systems with integration into smart home platforms.
Can you do access control for a small office or strata? +
Yes. Card-reader and keypad access control systems (Brivo, Avigilon Access, Ubiquiti UniFi Access, Kisi) for offices, strata buildings, and gated properties. Includes magnetic locks or strikes, request-to-exit, and emergency override.
How much does a residential security camera system cost? +
A typical 6–8 camera Ubiquiti UniFi Protect home install: $4,500–$8,500 including cameras, NVR, switch, and labour. Hikvision and Dahua systems can come in lower; high-end commercial cameras (Avigilon, Axis) higher.
Do security cameras need internet? +
Cameras themselves do not — local recording continues without internet. Remote app access and cloud features (if used) require internet. We design local-first setups so the system keeps working through internet outages.
Can you cable for distributed Wi-Fi access points? +
Yes. Ceiling-mounted PoE access points (Ubiquiti UniFi, Aruba, Ruckus, TP-Link Omada) with home-run Cat6 to a central switch — far more reliable than wireless mesh for medium and large homes.
What about TV and AV cabling? +
Yes. HDMI extenders, in-wall HDMI/Cat6 pulls behind TVs, conduit for future cable changes, AV rack wiring, and coordination with home theatre integrators.
Can you do conduit rough-in for low-voltage during a renovation? +
Yes — and this is the right time. Pre-wire conduit pulls to TV locations, ceiling AP locations, camera positions, and AV racks before drywall. Even if the actual cables are not pulled until later, the conduit makes future changes painless.
Do you do commercial structured cabling? +
Yes. Office tenant improvements, server room buildouts, retail Wi-Fi and POS cabling, restaurant POS and security cabling, and patch panel/rack installations with labeling and documentation.
Can security cameras integrate with my alarm system? +
Yes. Many alarm panels support video verification (cameras attached to specific zones). We install both alarm and camera systems and configure the integration when desired.
Do you install commercial paging and intercom systems? +
Yes. PoE-powered ceiling speakers, paging amps, and zoned audio systems for offices, schools, and retail. Integration with phone systems and emergency notification when required.
What about smoke and CO detectors for low-voltage notification? +
Hardwired interconnected smoke/CO detectors are a regular part of our residential work. For commercial properties, monitored fire alarm systems require a fire alarm contractor — we coordinate the low-voltage and electrical scope around them.
Can you supply NVR storage for cameras? +
Yes. We size NVR storage based on camera count, resolution, frame rate, and desired retention (typically 14–30 days for residential, 60–90 days for commercial). RAID configurations for commercial reliability.
Do you handle ongoing low-voltage support? +
Yes. Camera repositioning and replacement, NVR firmware updates, network troubleshooting, AP swaps, and system expansion. Service contracts available for commercial clients.
